Ag and Au nanoparticles decorated on synthetic clay functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotube for oxygen reduction reaction

A novel clay (aminoclay, AC) functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) was employed as a hybrid supporting material to Ag and Au nanoparticles for the improvement of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). The size structure catalysts were studied by XRD electron microscopy analysis, revealing that average crystallite particle about 3.4 2.6 nm 16.2 15.3 nanoparticles, respectively. ORR performance probed employing voltammetry techniques under static hydrodynamic conditions. results show electrochemical surface area (57.5 m2/g) (17.8 on AC/MWCNT are larger than AC-free catalysts, mechanism follows direct 4-electron transfer pathway. supported explicitly showed enhanced electrocatalytic efficiency activity MWCNT catalysts. This work demonstrates developing support using an inorganic silicate layer (clay minerals) persistence active metal could be promising strategy advanced LT-AFCs electrocatalysts.
